What Makes a Coffee Shop Feel Like a Third Place

A great coffee shop is more than a place to grab a drink. It’s a place to belong.
You may have heard the term “third place.” It refers to a space that exists outside of home (your first place) and work (your second place) — somewhere people naturally gather, feel comfortable, and build connection. A true third place coffee shop becomes part of people’s everyday routines, offering more than just drinks, but a sense of belonging.
At Coffee & Bark, becoming a third place has always been our goal.
It shows up in the little things. Cozy seating that invites you to stay awhile. Conversations between neighbors who didn’t know each other before walking in. Guests working quietly beside friends catching up over coffee. Dogs greeting new visitors like old friends are part of what makes Coffee & Bark a truly dog-friendly coffee shop.

We’ve intentionally designed our space to feel welcoming whether you’re here for five minutes or a few hours. Some guests come to work, others to meet friends, celebrate milestones, or simply reset during a busy day. There’s no single way to experience the space — and that’s exactly the point.

A true third place isn’t just about coffee. It’s about creating an environment where people feel seen, comfortable, and connected to their community.

For us, being a third place means showing up consistently, creating space for connection, and welcoming everyone exactly as they are. We’re grateful to be part of your everyday moments.
